When this is the right size

Building sites, demolition soft strip and large-scale clearances. Where the waste is mixed, bulky and continuous, one skip this size beats a rotating stream of smaller ones both on cost and on disruption.

It is a good marker for a decision point: if you are filling one of these more than about twice a week, the sums usually start favouring a container instead.

When to pick something else

It cannot go on a driveway and it will exceed the weight limit at well under half full if you put rubble in it. Keep heavy inert material in 6 yard skips alongside, and look at roll-on roll-off if the volume keeps climbing.

Where it stands. On your own driveway or private land, no permit is needed. On a public road, pavement or verge it needs one from Doncaster Council, which you apply for. We will tell you exactly what to ask for and what it involves. The permits page explains the process and timings.
